Food Technology Technician job summary

You will be assisting in the teaching and learning of food technology by helping to support students in their learning, maintaining a safe and clean environment and assisting the preparation and presentation of student work.

Main Duties and responsibilities:

  • Practical preparation - including materials, equipment and stock (ordering and ensuring availability)
  • Support teachers in lessons as appropriate
  • Safe and efficient storage of equipment
  • Maintain equipment in good order - reporting faults for other colleagues to make repairs or replace
  • Cleaning of equipment/work areas
  • Ensure health and safety guidelines are adhered to
  • Use supplies resourcefully
  • Work with teachers to help facilitate learning experiences. Including doing demonstrations where appropriate
  • Help organise the use of the display space within the Faculty and contribute to displays which celebrate achievement and inspire students
  • Undertake the role of assisting the teacher if required to do so
  • Admin functions such as ordering and photocopying
  • Flexible approach towards working times via agreement with the department lead with mutual consent

We ideally want:

  • Qualifications relating to food and catering
  • Experience in working within the catering industry or schools
  • Experience in food technology specific techniques, skills and methodology
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Professional, organised and able to work on own initiative
