What skills and experience we're looking for

Core job functions: Teaching and Learning

  • Plan and prepare lessons to teach children of all ages in a primary school setting
  • Deliver lessons that will support pupils social, emotional, mental health and wellbeing development.
  • Share knowledge and understanding of the benefits of outdoor learning.
  • Teach pupils about the wonders of the natural world.
  • Develop pupils’ collaboration and cooperations skills, ensuring all pupils understand what effective teamwork is.
  • Teach the children how to be safe in an outdoor environment.
  • Teach children how to use a wide range of tools and equipment safely.
  • To strive to make meaningful links between the school’s Curriculum and the aims, principals and philosophy of our Forest School provision, supporting pupils to broaden their knowledge and schema across multiple subjects and activities.
  • Have an in-depth understanding of what constitutes high-quality Forest Schools provision.
  • Monitor, evaluate and record pupils’ progress.
  • Use technology to support and enhance pupils’ learning.
  • Teach classes / groups / individual pupils, enabling learning and increasing pupils’ social, emotional, mental health and wellbeing
  • Discusses with Class Teachers and Senior Leaders links between Forest Schools provision and the school’s curriculum, informally and at meetings.
  • Works as part of a team to ensure that the wellbeing, behaviour and personal development of pupils enhances their learning opportunities and life skills.
  • Have full, relevant knowledge of pupils SEND, medical and physical needs through liaison with Class Teachers and SENDCO.
  • Assist pupils in developing their resilience and independence.
  • Lead, support, and supervise other adult staff and volunteers to ensure the effective running of Forest School sessions.
  • Provide guidance and be a role model to staff and volunteers, ensuring they understand the principals and best practices of Forest School provision.
  • Have a Forest School Leader Level 3 Qualification.
  • Have a Paediatric First Aid Trained qualification or be prepared to be trained to gain this qualification.

Have a full knowledge of pupils’ needs, ensuring that any disclosure a student may make must be reported to the classroom teacher and/or Safeguarding Leads immediately.

Core job functions: Personal Responsibility

  • To adhere to all school policies including those relating to Race Equality, Equality Opportunities, Safeguarding and Health and Safety.
  • Confidently risk assess the site, equipment and a wide variety of scenarios in an outdoor setting.
  • Confidently risk assess the use of wide range of tools and equipment, some of which could lead to significant harm if used incorrectly.
  • To check and maintain tools and other equipment.
  • To be curious and invested in researching and knowing up to date best practice and thinking in Forest Schools provision.
  • Be an excellent role model for all members of staff and for students in all aspects of school life.
  • Meet with Assistant Headteachers – Pastoral / Teaching & Learning to review provision.
  • To actively promote the aims of Wymondham College Prep School and its vision and values.
  • Support, promote and comply with decisions and policies agreed by the SLT and SET.

Core job functions: Administrative Responsibility

  • Use CLEAPSS to support the creation of risk assessments for activities that put pupils at risk.
  • Use EVOLVE to submit risk assessments for Forest Schools activities that could lead to injury.
  • Organises and maintain the Forest School site, taking responsibility for aspects of class organisation, administration and collation of evidence of progress of pupils’ learning.
  • Communicate and coordinate the organisation of parent volunteers to support in Forest Schools sessions and help with the maintenance of the site.
  • Liaise with the site Estates Team at various points in the year with regard to the upkeep and development of the site.

Undertake such tasks as the Headteacher or line manager may require.

Generic Accountabilities

  • Assist in supporting and monitoring students at break times.
  • Develop own professional knowledge, skills and understanding through active participation at meetings and training.
  • Attend daily and weekly meetings, and occasional meetings during evening hours, as required to include annual review meetings where required.
  • Make a positive contribution to all relevant areas of school life.
  • Actively organise and participate in activities connected with WCPS.
  • Develop effective working relationships with professional colleagues.

  • Follow all Safeguarding Procedures designed by WCPS and SET.

On appointment, the successful candidate will be required to complete a six-month probationary period.
