What skills and experience we're looking for

Being a successful member of the Beddington Infants’ School team requires a very good understanding of how young children learn. Our innovative provision is designed to offer children the best possible opportunities to develop academically while also developing as individuals. Our integrated broad and balanced curriculum inspires our children to engage with a journey of personal development while developing a love of learning.

We learn from and with our children, involving them in evaluating the success of our provision. Although our children are aged between 3 and 7 years, they have a wealth of understanding about how we learn.

Children and adults learn inside and outside every day. Our all-weather suits, worn over children’s coats, ensure that we are warm and dry in all weathers.

The school is a founder member of the Sutton Education Trust. A successful co-operative of seven schools working together to provide excellent opportunities for children, families and staff.

We need someone who:

  • is an outstanding, creative, energetic classroom practitioner with a sense of humour.

  • will inspire both children and adults implementing the vision of the school

  • strong subject knowledge with creative ideas to develop learning at all levels

  • can create a stimulating learning environment both inside and outside

  • has a commitment to holistic education and learning indoors & outdoors.

  • can support teachers, TA's and LSA's to develop their own practice

  • has high expectations both personally and for others

  • works as part of a team

What the school offers its staff

  • delightful, motivated children and supportive families

  • large friendly, committed staff.

  • a supportive senior leadership team.

  • an age appropriate learning environment with a strong focus on learning outdoors

  • family atmosphere in an open plan building.

Flexible working opportunities

Interviews will take place on Thursday 27th February.

Our Philosophy of Learning and Teaching
At Beddington Infants' school we educate the whole child
through an individualised approach by creating a safe, happy,
nurturing and challenging provision in which your child will
flourish.
Our provision is inspired by the Italian Reggio Emilia approach:
 children are respected as individuals with something valuable to say
 children have input into the direction of their learning;
 children are able to learn through experiences of touching, moving, listening,
and observing;
 children have a relationship with other children and with material items in the
world that they are encouraged to explore;
 children are given a variety of opportunities to express themselves.
We achieve this through
- a strong focus on high academic achievement in line with the National
Curriculum for Early Years and Key Stage One
- learning opportunities organised around immediate verbal feedback
- meaningful opportunities to use and apply new learning and skills
- a buzzing, open learning environment
- regular opportunities for families to join us to learn with their children
- opportunities for children to be fully immersed in their learning
- opportunities for children to think and make decisions for themselves
- offering a broad range of daily indoor and outdoor learning experiences
allowing each child to blossom as an individual
- scaffolding new learning and experiences to develop confidence enabling
children to challenge themselves
- continuous opportunities to interact with and develop a respect for the
environment and the community.

Information about Beddington Infants’ School
Beddington Infants’ School is a happy, lively school with a strong team of
committed staff. Some members of staff have been in the school for a while,
others are recently appointed. The children are confident and friendly and
come from a variety of backgrounds. All of them live locally. No class has
more than 30 children and the teaching staff are well supported by teaching
assistants and learning support assistants. We make use of a wide range of
other professionals including health, the learning support team and educational
psychologists. We welcome teaching, NVQ, administration and work experience
students.
The school was re-built in 1973 as a single story, open plan building consisting
of 6 classes, a central resource area, and ICT suite and a large hall. We have a
purpose built Reception block with 3 classrooms and Nursery on site. In the
playground, as well as a tarmac area, we have a climbing frame, a trim trail, a
sizeable piece of grass, a wildlife area, a vegetable garden and a quiet area
guarded by a dragon. When the children leave Beddington Infants’ School
almost all of them transfer to Holy Trinity Junior School which is separated from
us by a large playing field which we share. We have a strong and friendly
relationship with Holy Trinity Junior School with whom we are linked by custom
and practice - they are a church school and we are not.
The school was inspected by Ofsted in April ‘18 when it received a good report.
We have been awarded Healthy School status, the Active Mark and we have
just been awarded the Green Flag (eco award) for the sixth time. Although we
are keen for the children to do well, we value social and emotional development
as much as academic progress.
Parents are very supportive of the school and there is a thriving Parent Teacher
Association. Visitors and parents are made welcome in the school and we have
many parent/adult volunteers working in classrooms on a regular basis.
The Governors are committed and involved with the life of the school at many
levels. They visit the school regularly and support us in a wide variety of ways
to ensure that the school is the best it can be.
Beddington Infants’ School is a founding member of The Sutton Education Trust
– a group of 7 local schools who have formed a strong union to improve
outcomes for children, families, staff and governors. Although in its infancy as a
group of schools, being a member of the S.E.T. offers many and varied
opportunities for all stakeholders, including cross school working. The
successful candidate will be employed by Beddington Infants’ School, not the
Sutton Education Trust.
The successful candidate will be well supported by our senior leadership team
and a cohesive body of staff.
Please find more information on our school website. We welcome visits to the
school. Please contact our school office on 020 8647 7813 or
office@beddingtoninfants.org.uk. We look forward to meeting you.
