French Language Assistant job summary

Start Date: 15 September 2025

Closing date: Monday 7 July 2025

Hours: 12 hours per week

Weeks: 32 weeks a year

Contract: One-year fixed term ending on 31 August 2026. (With a possibility to extend)

Actual Salary Pro rata: £6,710 - £6805 (Scale 3, point 5-6)

The French department is seeking an enthusiastic language assistant to support our high achieving A-Level and GCSE students in their oral exam preparation and to help the department with conducting KS3 speaking assessments. The candidate should have excellent subject knowledge and an interest in the chosen language country, film culture and literature. You will need to be flexible and have a positive approach.

Successful applicant will need to demonstrate:

Oral and written fluency and grammatical accuracy in French at a native speaker level

To have clear understanding and up to date knowledge of the English education system and French A-level oral exam requirements (we use AQA)

To have an enthusiasm approach for French and have the flexibility in supporting our young children in their learning.

To have the ability to work productively in a highly motivated team.

To offer feedback on students’ level of progress, approach to learning, and level of effort.

To offer additional assistance in the target language to students who may be having difficulty as instructed by their teachers or the department head.

To create displays that are appropriate for the MFL department in collaboration with other language assistants.

To support the teaching of the target language by finding and collating interesting authentic language resources.

To be willing to support the MFL Faculty in organising and joining in extra-curricular activities: local trips, theatre visits, cinema, language events, etc.
