Geography Teacher job summary

Geography Teacher Salary: MPS/UPS incl. Fringe Possibility of TLR2c for Head of Department Part-Time Permanent (0.6 FTE) Required for January 2022 Rickmansworth School is an 11-18 heavily oversubscribed co-educational partially (35%) selective academy with nearly 1400 students on roll, increasing to around 1575 students over the next five years. Academic results are strong at KS4 and KS5 with the vast majority of students securing their first choice university destinations. The School is in a very strong, stable financial position with over £4M recently spent on school expansion including a new Sixth-form centre, performing arts theatres and an Innovation & Design Centre. The School is also supported extremely well by a fantastic PTA and Foundation. Our outstanding staff well-being programme includes fortnightly well-being periods, access to our fitness suite and swimming pool, flu vaccinations and complimentary eye tests. Our students enjoy learning and are an absolute pleasure to teach. We believe every child deserves the best and we aim to achieve excellence in all aspects of school life. About the Geography Department At KS3 students develop a wide range of skills through studying a number of topics. Where possible topics are delivered using a variety of case studies from all over the world, often with the student’s digital device at the heart of the learning. At KS4 Geography is a popular and successful option. In recent years, approximately half of students achieved a grade 7-9 following the AQA syllabus. We consistently have 4 teaching groups in Year 10 and 4 groups in Year 11 (over 200 students in total). At KS5 Geography is an increasingly popular option at A Level. We currently have 2 teaching groups in Year 12 and 1 teaching group in Year 13 (over 60 students). 92% of our students have achieved grades A*-C in the last three years following the AQA A Level syllabus. The department has developed a high level of expertise in the NEA component of the A Level course also. Extra-curricular provision and field trips form a strong part of the ethos of the Department. We have traditionally offered an annual visit to Iceland and a week-long residential field course is a regular fixture in our A Level calendar. This role would provide an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and outstanding Geography teacher who wishes to further develop their career in a successful school with outstanding behaviour. We can offer you: Excellent CPD opportunities A school rated Good by Ofsted where students’ behaviour is exemplary A professional working environment where teamwork is highly valued A partially-selective school with a focus on academic achievement (Progress 8 in 2020-21 was +0.53) Admission criteria where preference is given to staffs’ children A school which invests heavily in the future with £3.5m recent school expansion and strong ongoing financial support from our Foundation and PTA A hugely talented and cohesive support staff An outstanding wellbeing programme offering: Flu jabs Free access to our first-class fitness suite and swimming pool Complimentary eye tests We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and are an equal opportunities employer.
