Governance Support Officer job summary

We are looking for a meticulous and proactive Governance Support Officer to guide and support our Trust Board and Committees in all matters of governance. In your role, you will be the cornerstone of strategic governance within the Trust. You will provide expert advice to the Trust Board and Local Governing Committees, ensuring statutory compliance, high-quality leadership support, and consistent processes that foster transparency and accountability.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Provide strategic and administrative support to the Trust Board and its Committees;
- Ensure compliance with DfE requirements, the Academy Trust Handbook, and relevant legislation;
- Draft agendas, coordinate meetings, prepare papers and take accurate minutes;
- Advise Directors on governance policy, procedures, and developments;
- Maintain statutory registers and records;
- Foster effective communication between Directors, Executive Leaders, and other stakeholders.
We are seeking someone who:
- Has prior experience in governance or clerking within the education or charity sectors;
- Understands governance requirements and the role of a Trust Board in a Multi Academy Trust;
- Is highly organised with exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
- Thrives in a collaborative, fast paced environment;
- Is committed to promoting excellence in education and governance.
