What skills and experience we're looking for

Thank you for considering to join one of Local Academy Boards.

The LAB’s play a vital role in our Trust and we value their input and are extremely grateful for each and every person for giving up their time.

Trustees want to ensure that each school has the support it needs from a strong Local Academy Board with a broad range of skills that compliments the school and provides challenge.

Why become a school Governor is such an important question and there are many ways to answer this!

The main point is that it is extremely rewarding to join an LAB and know that your input is making a difference to the pupils in school - it’s ultimately why we are all here whether we are volunteers or staff.

You don’t need to be a parent or education expert to volunteer. Schools require a combination of hard and soft skills to ensure their boards operate effectively. Whether you’re an experienced professional or embarking on the first stages of your career, we’ll work hard to match you with an appropriate school. If you’re over 18 and willing to devote some of your time to improving educational standards every month, we encourage you to apply.

Send us an email if you have any questions or would like to apply.

What the school offers its staff

Becoming a school governor is a unique opportunity to grow, lead, and make a real difference to children and young people in your local community.

Whether you’re looking to develop your leadership skills, expand your professional network, or use your unique perspective to drive positive change, volunteering on a governing board is a powerful next step.

Additionally, being a school governor fosters a deep sense of community involvement, allowing you to give back to your community and make a positive impact on the next generation.

Commitment to safeguarding

Our organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff, volunteers and trustees to share this commitment.

Our recruitment process follows the keeping children safe in education guidance.

Offers of employment may be subject to the following checks (where relevant):
childcare disqualification
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
medical
online and social media
prohibition from teaching
right to work
satisfactory references
suitability to work with children

You must tell us about any unspent conviction, cautions, reprimands or warnings under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975.
