Guitar Tutor job summary
This role is based at Deansfield Primary School.
We are seeking to appoint an experienced and committed guitar teacher. Music is an essential part of our curriculum and school ethos. All children receive weekly class music lessons with our experienced Music Lead. In addition to this provision, all children in Years 1 to 6 can choose to learn an instrument with our visiting music tutors. Currently we offer tuition in piano, violin, cello, guitar, flute and drum-kit. The school has a very strong reputation for its singing: we have several choirs, and there is a long history of children performing at prestigious events and venues.
In this role you will:
- Lead, develop and deliver an engaging and inclusive guitar programme for pupils in Years 2-6, including classical, electric and acoustic guitar.
- Have a positive impact on pupils’ musical achievement, confidence and participation in music-making
- Work collaboratively with pupils, parents, school staff and the Music Lead to support high-quality musical outcomes.
This is an opportunity to contribute to a Trust that is deliberate about how it improves practice and outcomes.
Compass Eko Trust is a family of 28 schools working as one system to improve outcomes for every child. We are united by a clear commitment: every child achieving, without exception.
Through a knowledge-rich curriculum, strong professional collaboration and a shared commitment to excellence, we support our schools to deliver high-quality education in their communities.
Our schools sit at the heart of everything we do. The Trust exists to bring clarity, consistency and support so leaders can focus on what matters most - teaching and learning.
We are looking for a vibrant, caring and dedicated guitar teacher who will be able to inspire and motivate a wide range of pupils. In particular, we are seeking someone who can nurture and encourage both highly motivated pupils and those who find practising at home a challenge. The successful candidate will have experience and enthusiasm for teaching classical, electric and acoustic guitar, enabling pupils to explore a broad range of musical styles and genres.
The work of our music tutors is fully integrated into the wider music curriculum. Children will come to our tutors already familiar with music notation and a basic understanding of the instrument they have chosen. We very much promote a supportive partnership with our music tutors.
The number of teaching hours will vary from year to year. It is expected that from September 2026 there will initially be 4 - 5 hours per week, with scope for this to increase to a full day and beyond as the guitar programme grows.
As part of our Trust, you will be part of a professional community where:
- Schools work together, sharing expertise and improving practice
- Staff benefit from strong professional networks and collaboration across schools
- Development is supported through coaching, CPD and leadership pathways
- You are not working in isolation - you are part of a wider system
Our offer:
- Competitive pay and conditions aligned to national frameworks
- Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) or Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS)
- Access to a structured programme of professional development
- Opportunities to work across schools and develop your career
- Employee Assistance Programme with 24/7 confidential support
- Access to staff benefits and discount schemes
- Family-friendly policies and flexible working options where possible
