What skills and experience we're looking for

Owing to the promotion of the current post holder, we are seeking to appoint a high-calibre Head of Biology to join a talented and supportive Science Department at The Frances Bardsley Academy for Girls. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with passionate, experienced colleagues who are subject specialists. The post is suitable for existing leaders and also teachers wanting to build their leadership experience. The role involves teaching A-level Biology to students who are keen to learn and achieve.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be visionary in shaping the Biology Department
  • Lead colleagues in delivering brilliant Biology lessons, ensuring consistently high standards are achieved
  • Lead on curriculum development in Biology and plan creatively for high quality teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Help shape the career development of the Biology and Science team, providing opportunities for professional growth and equitable access to relevant training
  • Share our commitment to building great learning communities for our students and inspire young women with a passion for Biology
  • Work collaboratively across the Science Department and the school
  • Have a QTS qualification

The successful candidate will become part of an oversubscribed, flourishing school for girls aged 11 to 18, with confident, courteous, articulate students and an ethos in empowerment. The Frances Bardsley Academy for Girls is a non-denominational academy secondary school and sixth form for girls aged between 11 and 18. It is located in Romford in the borough of Havering, London. The number of pupils is approximately 1,300.

The school was established in 1906 by Frances Bardsley with the aim of providing free education to the local girls. Formerly across two different sites until 2003, it became The Frances Bardsley School for Girls in 1972 and converted to academy status in 2012.
