At St Ambrose College we value the development of the whole person and ask that both staff and students strive for excellence in all they undertake. Therefore, the progress and attainment of students at all Key Stages is extremely important to us but equally, the enrichment opportunities and successes beyond the classroom are encouraged and celebrated. At St Ambrose we are committed to developing successful students by focusing on high quality teaching, learning, assessment and productive feedback. We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from experienced teachers and those new to the profession. There are excellent arrangements in place to support and mentor new colleagues through our bespoke induction programme. Commitment is required to meet the demands of a high achieving school, both in the classroom and beyond and it is an expectation at St Ambrose that staff play a full role in the extra-curricular life of the school.
There are a number of incentives in place for staff including a thriving St Ambrose Staff Association, contributory pension scheme, staff morning swimming sessions and support for continued professional development available through our Edmund Rice network, the Shrewsbury Diocese, our connections with local teaching schools and of course, the expertise which exists in-house.
St Ambrose College is a selective Catholic Boys’ Grammar School. Following on from our most recent Diocesan and OFSTED inspections, which graded all areas of the college's work as Outstanding and the fantastic opportunity created by being designated as an Edmund Rice Lead International School, alongside another year of great examination results, we are perfectly placed to continue our journey of excellence providing an outstanding education for all our students.
Our College ethos, built firmly on the eight essentials of Edmund Rice, aims to develop open-minded, flexible, resilient individuals with the skills and attitudes to be successful in today’s and tomorrow's society.
We are fortunate to have outstanding facilities with state of the art classrooms, equipment, swimming pool and sporting opportunities, together with forward-thinking staff, who continually develop their practice and empower our students to be the source of their own success.
The College is rich in extra-curricular activities. The main games are rugby, cricket, swimming, water polo and cross country, but there are many others. There is a vibrant Creative Arts faculty and we aim to offer significant opportunities for boys to showcase their talents at events throughout the year. Boys are actively involved in the liturgical life of the school with 6th Form students leading weekly prayers.
There are approximately 1000 boys on the school roll, including over 200 in the Sixth Form. Most proceed to a Russell Group University and a number to Oxbridge.
We have an annual Presentation Evening to celebrate the achievements of our GCSE students and A Level students. We also have an annual awards evening for KS3/4 students in order to celebrate their activities and contributions to school life.
We are first and foremost, a Catholic college in the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice and this permeates in all we do. I hope you gain a sense of our ethos from the information contained on our website.
I look forward to meeting you in the future.
