Knutsford Academy provides secondary education to over 1200 students aged from 11 to 18 in the historic town of Knutsford, less than 20 miles from the centre of Manchester and minutes from the M6 motorway. Students arrive in Year 7 from the local primary schools in Knutsford and we also attract a number of students from the south Manchester and Northwich areas. The school formed in 1953 as Knutsford High School and still operates from the original site in the centre of the town; it transferred to Academy status in 2012.
In November 2019 the Academy appeared in The Sunday Times Schools Power League table as one of the top 100 performing non selective state secondary schools in the country based on both A Level and GCSE results. Over the last four years we have also achieved a 100% pass rate at A Level in over 30 subjects which has seen a large number of students progressing to Russell Group universities. In summer 2019 83% of students achieved a grade 4 or above at GCSE, with 27% at grade 7 or above.
In September 2020 we merged with Congleton MAT to form The Learning Alliance, a group of 8 secondary and primary schools based across Cheshire and North Staffordshire. The trust believes in allowing each school to retain its distinctive and successful ethos whilst also being able to support the ambition of individual schools, help children to reach their potential and benefit from the greater resources that partnership within the trust brings. CEO of the Trust is Mike Cladingbowl, a former headteacher, and national director for Ofsted. Mike was CEO of Knutsford Multi-Academy Trust prior to the merger.
