Head of Construction job summary

Leadership Scale Full time, Permanent September 2020 start Given school closures, all interviews will be conducted remotely during this period. Following our previous recruitment round, we have recruited a number of fantastic people and there is a palpable sense of excitement around next year. With sixteen new starters confirmed, we still have a small number of vacancies remaining. There is no question that Sir Herbert Leon Academy is a school that requires improvement and that there is a great deal of work to be done in the academy but it is our intention that this school will be one of the top in the region in as short a time as possible. To that end, we are seeking exceptional teachers and leaders to join us in turning this school around. The Executive Director for the academy was previously responsible for the turnaround of Harris Battersea which rose to become one of the top ten schools in the country after being one of the worst in London for many decades. With his support, the changes at this school will be rapid and there will be many opportunities for promotion amongst staff who are capable of doing something special for the students within our care. As Head of Construction, you will be responsible for driving forward standards within your department and ensuring the very highest of outcomes. You will be responsible for building a curriculum tailored to the needs of our students and working with the staff in your area to continually develop their practice. Academies should be disciplined but also a place of warmth and staffed by people who are caring, smart and hard-working. As a Head of Department you will help shape and embed the ethos of the school and make the academy something that the community can be proud of. The school believes that teachers should focus on marking, planning and teaching and that everything else is a distraction. This means that teachers will never be asked to make a phone-call home about behaviour, they will never be asked to accept a student from another classroom and they will never be asked to run a detention. The Senior Leadership Team will manage all of this so that teachers can set about filling the gaps in knowledge that too many supply teachers have left in our students. Situated in an area of high deprivation next to the Lakes Estate in Bletchley, the school mirrors many of the issues that are common to an inner-city school. The academy requires people who will stop at nothing to improve the lives of our pupils, many of whom do not have the easiest of starts in life and, side-by-side with a group of like-minded staff, are intolerant of mediocrity, relentless in the application of high standards and tenacious in their belief that students are always capable of more. Equally, you can expect to be well-compensated: we want the best teachers and it is important that we recognise the worth of exceptional people. Should you wish to find out more then please email the Executive Director, David Moody using dmoody@academiesenterprisetrust.org and he will be more than happy to speak to you on the phone or in person at the school. Closing Date: Monday 06 April 2020 In line with our safeguarding practices we are unable to accept CV’s.
