What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking a Head of Modern Foreign Languages with the drive, imagination and energy to deliver excellence in the MFL department in a school where success in languages is a clear focus.You must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘Students First’.You will ensure effective teaching and learning is in place in MFL to ensure outstanding outcomes for students and increased numbers studying MFL at GCSE. The role of Head of MFL at Outwood Academy Adwick would be ideal for either an experienced Head of Department or someone looking to make that next step. You will be supported extensively by a team of MFL Directors allowing you to strategically lead the department, whilst having the support and advice from the Director team. This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to lead a progressive department and be pivotal in shaping their journey to world class.
An excellent knowledge and understanding of modern foreign languages is essential.The MFL Department at Outwood Academy Adwick is a relatively small department of 3 staff, all full time. We offer Spanish at KS3 and KS4. Languages are valued by SLT and the school community and the importance of being a world citizen is promoted across the school. All teaching rooms are well resourced with an interactive whiteboard and a visualiser.We subscribe to Quizlet which is used as a vocabulary learning platform outside of school, primarily for KS4. This is also used to set weekly vocabulary learning homework for GCSE classes to support in class learning. Further to this, we run weekly enrichment sessions after school, e.g. a KS3 Language Club and intervention sessions for KS4. We also look to organise trips abroad to give students the experience of the real thing.
The successful candidate will offer Spanish to KS4.We are looking for an excellent teacher and inspiring leader who has high aspirations for both staff and students, who is committed and passionate about providing young people with the best possible education whatever their background or ability. The Academy benefits from being part of the Outwood Family of Schools, which affords opportunities for staff to work and progress across several schools if desired. All staff are guaranteed a minimum of two hours CPD per week and a further comprehensive programme of professional development is provided through our own network of teaching schools. We have extensive involvement in the Yorkshire and the Humber Maths Hub and there are plenty of opportunities for you to get involved in the fantastic projects they run.

We are an 11-18 academy based just north of the large, friendly, South Yorkshire town of Doncaster.
We have been a member of the Outwood Family since 2009, and in our 2023 Ofsted inspection the academy was graded Good in all categories. The inspection noted ‘the school has a supportive and caring culture. Staff build arm and friendly relationships with pupils. Pupils achieve their full potential. Staff are proud to work at the school’.

The inspectors were equally complimentary about our sixth form provision, with a wide range of courses on offer; including A Levels, vocational qualifications and T-levels.

We are also proud to have been awarded Silver Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.
