Head of Department Social Sciences and H&SC job summary

The Deepings School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, dynamic, and highly motivated Head of Social Sciences.  We’re looking for an individual with a proven track record of success in improving standards and raising student outcomes. We want to hear from talented middle leaders looking to extend their experience, and outstanding, ambitious teachers seeking their first middle leadership post.

As an experienced teacher, you will develop an exciting curriculum that suits every type of learner and have the resolve to make a real difference to the lives of our young people. The successful candidate will be a committed team player with excellent organisational and motivational skills.

You will be able to demonstrate the ability to lead a successful department, drawing on your extensive teaching and leadership experience. The successful candidate will take a collaborative approach to curriculum development that will further improve the learning and teaching experience for all our students.

We are looking for someone with the following qualities:

• good knowledge of psychology, sociology and H&SC curriculums
• a proven track-record in raising attainment and improving progress
• able to review and develop curriculum and resources across all three subject areas, ensuring that highly effective approaches to teaching and assessment are explicit within this planning and modelled to colleagues
• a commitment to own professional development and conducting meaningful QA
• demonstrable success in achieving strong progress with students in these subjects
• excellent, well-developed interpersonal skills and an understanding of the importance of being able to work collaboratively across a range of schools
• a strong commitment to inclusion, diversity and equality
