Head of Design & Technology job summary
We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about Design and Making, with Engineering or Industry experience being an advantage. You will be a team player, with outstanding subject knowledge and experience across traditional processes as well as CAD/CAM. Experience of teaching A level is essential.
The successful candidate will lead a department of 3 full-time teachers and a full-time technician with a range of expertise and skills, managed by the Assistant Principal. The department has 5 workshops, a graphics room and dedicated IT suite, along with a range of industry standard machinery including; large laser cutter and CNC milling machine, as well as a 3D printer.
DT is a popular subject at GCSE with over 170 students opting to take it; numbers taking the subject at KS5 have been increasing and we have a higher proportion of girls than average taking the subject. The department achieved above national average results at GCSE last year and supports students on to college, apprenticeships and Design Degrees at University. The department has links with local businesses and has previously entered a range of competitions, which is an area we are looking to expand on.
We welcome applications from candidates who have the drive and passion to share high quality and innovative practice in the classroom, and lead Curriculum development alongside the Head of Creativity. The successful will be student and staff focused and passionate about sharing their love of DT with our diverse and inclusive student body.
Hinchingbrooke School is a ‘Good’ school (Ofsted November 2021). It is oversubscribed and boasts a growing and very successful sixth form. Hinchingbrooke School is also an outstandingly beautiful school. Set in acres of grounds, Hinchingbrooke House was formerly the family home of the Cromwell family and the Earls of Sandwich. We have a fantastic range of much more modern purpose-built facilities, such as a swimming pool, an all-weather sports pitch, a Performing Arts Centre, and a modern fitness suite, available for staff use through our partnership with HBK Leisure. Our focus lies very much in teaching and learning and we believe that this must be the basis of our development work as we seek to fulfil the potential of each one of our students.
We welcome applications from candidates who are student focused and passionate about sharing their own love of Design & Technology with our diverse and inclusive student body.
If you are an outstanding teacher, it really is worth applying for this post and joining somewhere special. We are seeking to appoint a candidate who is passionate about their subject area; a team player who will thrive on collaboration and teamwork; someone who really wants to make a difference!
