What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking an ambitious and inspiring Head of Design and Technology to lead an innovative and dynamic department. Our Design and Technology curriculum is designed to offer our students a broad range of rich and deep cutting edge experiences in all elements of design and technological development. These include Engineering, Cookery and Catering, Fashion Design and Construction. Our philosophy within the department is to be ambitious, creative and innovative. We encourage out of the box thinking and are a progressive school that is climatised to change.
You will have a track record of improvement and some experience of leading staff, but your passion is imperative! You must have the capacity to create a clear strategy to enhance and develop the department in achieving academic excellence. We will give you the freedom, autonomy and support to adapt and review the Technology curriculum in line with our vision.
You will need to be someone who cares, both for our students and for your team. We pride ourselves on the unity of our staff and our departments. The Highcrest family is an important part of academy life. The right candidate will embrace the school’s visions and values to be an integral part of our team.
We believe that our Heads of Department have a pivotal role in inspiring and challenging pupils of every ability in every year to raise their academic standards, in promoting their confidence and self-esteem, and in securing year on year improving GCSE and post-16 results.
What the school offers its staff
Highcrest offers both an excellent induction and support programme for ECTs and an innovative and extensive CPD package for more experienced teachers. This provision of training has been praised as outstanding by an external assessor and highlighted in the local press. For ECTs, we provide weekly CPD meetings with experienced members of staff, time-tabled and protected Mentor Meetings on a weekly basis, subject knowledge time with departments and an extensive personalised CPD plan.

Not only will you be an excellent and experienced classroom practitioner, you will be able to teach within the subject area to sixth form level.Offering Child Development/Health and Social Care would also be an advantage, but is not essential. You will be successful in securing the highest standards of Teaching and Learning, implementing new systems and developing the curriculum with a priority to improve results.
