Head of English job summary

What we are looking for?

  • A dynamic, inspirational and passionate leader
  • A commitment to achieving the highest outcomes for all pupils
  • A candidate with high expectations of themselves and others

We know every teacher wants to be the very best they can be and we would love to help you along this journey. Teaching is full of rewards and challenges but what is key is a supportive team to work alongside you as you develop.

We are looking to recruit a Head of English Teacher to join our English Department to develop our children’s love of reading and language. We want children to relish in poetry, thrive in drama and develop their own flair in language. Gilbert Inglefield is a thriving, happy and successful school. Pupils are proud of their school and this is reflected in the commitment and standards they bring to so many aspects of school life. The excellent achievements of our pupils over their four-year journey with us are the result of their hard work, the support of our parents and the expertise of a dedicated staff. It is a real team effort.

Our academy provides a unique opportunity to teach both key stage two and key stage three children. We work with children age 9 – 13 (Y5 – Y8) and this age range enables us to put the curriculum at the heart of what we do. There are no national tests or exams at the end of key stage three and this empowers teachers to focus on driving a broad and balanced curriculum. As a teacher you will be surround by professionals from a range of backgrounds including both primary and secondary training. Teachers share pedagogical practice with each other and there is a genuine sense of a learning community.

Our aim is to ensure that through the highest quality teaching of a broad, balanced and challenging curriculum in a stimulating environment, each pupil flourishes. With an excellent pastoral care system, we foster an environment where children feel safe and able to learn. We are a community that values each child and provides them with the opportunity to fulfil their potential and enjoy learning. We believe in building a child’s confidence, adaptability and resilience for the future within an ordered and structured environment, where high expectations are a habit.

Leighton Buzzard is 30 mins by train from London which means we have access to amenities of the capital on our doorstep.

Gilbert Inglefield Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to enhanced DBS checks.
