What skills and experience we're looking for

John Cabot Academyis currently recruiting for a Curriculum Lead of English to join our talented and supportive team.

With a history of excellent outcomes in our English department and across the Academy, we are looking for an individual with a passion for English Language and Literature, a track record of impact within English leadership and someone who wants to join a school where leaders are empowered to lead. You will be part of the CLF with a collaboratively planned curriculum and assessments.

A well-qualified specialist holding QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree, you will have the ability to teach Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

Your duties will specifically include:

1. Leading on Curriculum

  • Champion the Curriculum: generate excitement for the subject from colleagues and children. Be able to articulate the intent & implementation of the curriculum.

  • Guardian of the Curriculum, ensuring that all children receive their entitlement from your subject

2. Improve the Quality of teaching & learning

  • Lead professional development of the team so they gain relevant subject knowledge

  • Quality assures the standards of teaching

  • Directly intervene to address underperformance in teaching

3. Improving outcomes and preparing children for the next stage

  • Focusing on outcomes supports children to achieve what they need for life and their next stage.
  • Deeply understand the demands of the curriculum and specification so that children are prepared well for assessment (exam)
