What skills and experience we're looking for
Houlton School is a brand new secondary free school that opened in September 2021; set within a combination of fully refurbished Grade II listed buildings as well as brand new, specialist teaching facilities, Mathematics is housed within our brand new STEM teaching facility. We have had so many successes since opening, including achieving World Class Schools Quality Mark; 2024 Global Inclusion Award winners; Outstanding Teacher of the Year at the National Teaching Awards; and recently being graded 'Good' in all areas by Ofsted (February 2024).
You will join us Easter just ahead of us welcoming our fifth cohort of pupils and the launch of Year 11 so will teach across Years 7-11 in the first instance. Ultimately, we will have all seven year groups, including Sixth Form.

As a result of the relocation overseas of the previous post-holder, Houlton School has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic Head of Faculty: Mathematics and Numeracy to join our successful school. You will also be part of the Extended Leadership Team.
You will join a passionate team of teachers who are committed to delivering the curriculum in engaging and inspiring ways.
You will be an excellent teacher who has the ability to inspire, motivate, challenge and support their pupils to ensure that they make excellent progress.
This post is not suitable for Early Career Teachers.

The successful candidate will:
- Be a motivated individual with excellent subject knowledge in Mathematics with knowledge of current trends in teaching within this area.
- Be committed to supporting pupils to succeed.
- Be able to continue to build and lead to a successful team.
Overview of responsibilities:
- To teach pupils according to their educational needs, including the setting and marking of work to be carried out by the pupil in school and elsewhere.
- To lead the curriculum planning and support the team.
- To lead the department and line manage staff as appropriate.
- To assess, record and report on the attendance, progress, development and attainment of pupils and to keep such records as are required by school and curriculum team policy.
- To provide, or contribute to, oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual pupils and groups of pupils.
- To ensure that Literacy is reflected in the teaching/learning experience of pupils promoting whole school Literacy and Reading within the Faculty and lead whole-school numeracy.
- To undertake a designated programme of teaching.
- To ensure a high-quality learning experience for pupils which meets internal and external quality standards.
- To prepare and update subject materials and schemes of learning.
- To use a variety of delivery methods which will stimulate learning appropriate to pupil needs and demands of the syllabus.
- To maintain discipline in accordance with the school’s procedures, and to encourage good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework.
- To undertake assessment of pupils as requested by external examination bodies, curriculum team and school procedures.
- To mark, grade and give written/verbal and diagnostic feedback as required in line with both the school’s feedback policy and the policy of any curriculum team the post holder is working within.

Houlton School is an 11-18 Free School Academy with World Class Quality Mark status. It is part of the Transforming Lives Educational Trust, based in Rugby. It opened to its founding cohort of Year 7 pupils in September 2021 and will grow, one cohort at a time until there are pupils across ages 11-18.
We are fortunate to occupy a brand new, £39 campus-style academy, which includes the Grade II listed former Rugby Radio Station buildings, as well as three new purpose-built, specialist teaching blocks, all set within a 20 acre campus on the Eastern border of Warwickshire.
