Head of Faculty - Modern Foreign Languages job summary

An exciting leadership opportunity for an outstanding professional who enjoys working with young people and has a genuine excitement for excellence in the teaching and learning of Modern Foreign Languages. In this key role, you will lead the MFL provision (French, German and Spanish) to ensure students experience a rich, inspiring and rigorous curriculum that engages and enthuses students of all academic abilities. Co-curricular activities feature Languages Week, Language Clubs, participation in national language competitions, and residential trips to France, Germany, and Spain.

The MFL Faculty is vibrant and highly successful with a strong record of outstanding results in public examinations. Students study 2 languages at KS3, with all students continuing with at least one language to GCSE. MFL is a popular A Level choice with 6 A Level language classes this academic year. All our MFL teachers teach at least two languages, with the ideal candidate for this post being able to offer one language to A Level and a further language at Key Stage 4. Our faculty is supported by 3 language assistants, enhancing the learning experience for our students.

Ofsted (2024) commented that (pupils) “are active participants in their learning and consistently demonstrate high levels of focus … teachers are experts in the subjects they teach … pupils’ conduct and manners are exemplary … any disruption to learning is incredibly rare… staff are extremely positive about the support that they receive from leaders…particularly around their professional development and well-being”.

Parmiter's is a partially selective 11-18 co-educational school of 1496 students, including 418 in the Sixth Form. Academic results are consistently strong and we remain the most heavily oversubscribed school in Hertfordshire.

Parmiter’s is an academy, receiving government funding as well as support from the Parmiter's Foundation, which owns the school and its site and continues to invest in the school’s development. Our accommodation, sports and many other facilities are exceptionally good, well-resourced and well-maintained.

In July 2024, Ofsted rated the school Outstanding in all areas, commenting, "Throughout the school, including the Sixth Form, pupils thrive. They receive an exceptional standard of education. Not only do pupils achieve high academic success, but they also develop into well-rounded, active members of society."

As a large secondary Academy, we have many opportunities for both teaching and support staff. Parmiter's is an exciting and enjoyable place to work.
