What skills and experience we're looking for
The role
We are currently looking for an experienced and qualified Head of Geography to lead the department on a full-time basis. You will be responsible for managing the department, developing the curriculum, and ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
About you
The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:
- Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree, and, ideally, management training
- Demonstrate successful teaching of GCSE at good or better level
- Have experience of initiation and effective management of change
- Show evidence of raising achievement in present post and showing good value added for groups
- Have knowledge of current curriculum developments in subject and their implications
- Have good knowledge and understanding of current educational thinking
- Show good understanding of how children learn and how to raise standards of achievement
- Display excellent organisational skills
- Are able to build and sustain professional standards and relationships with students
- To monitor and evaluate the progress of pupils’ learning in the subject
- To follow school departmental policies for the assessing, recording and reporting of pupil achievement using these to set achievable targets for further improvement in the subject across the range of abilities
- To create and maintain a stimulating learning environment for the learning of Computer Science and to have a significant input into the development of Computer Science teaching in the school.
- To ensure levels of discipline conducive to learning
- To work as part of a team in the teaching organisation and administration of the department
