Geography is a thriving, successful and popular at Myton, with a large number of students choosing to study it at both A Level and GCSE. We are looking for a visionary leader to take the steps needed to bring the department forward at all key stages.

Your appointment as Head of Geography will be to lead the team of seven specialist Geography teachers. This team includes members of the leadership team and pastoral teams who are committed, passionate teachers and who provide an excellent Geography education to our students.

As Head of Department, you will demonstrate a passion for Geography and have a deep understanding of the learning process and the current developments in education and examination requirements. You will also need experience in leading field work trips and teaching the subject at A-level.

Essential educational requirements

Strong subject knowledge;
Knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculum requirements for Geography;
Knowledge and understanding of the learning process;
A clear philosophy for the teaching of Geography;
Experience of delivering the KS3 and KS4 Geography curriculum;
Awareness of the responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children.

Essential qualifications

Qualified Teacher status (by employment start date) with specialisation in Geography.

The vision and capacity to drive the department to be at the forefront of the school’s success;
Able to lead, motivate and support staff effectively;
Excellent classroom practitioner with success in teaching Geography;
Evidence of creative and imaginative approaches to teaching Geography;
Able to work effectively under pressure, meet tight deadlines and pay attention to detail;
Ability to use ICT in the classroom to achieve improvement;
High level of interpersonal, organisational and administrative skills;
Able to manage students effectively;
Ability to see tasks through to a successful conclusion;
Ability to coordinate, and participate in, exciting and innovative extra-curricular opportunities.
