The role and what we are looking for:
We are seeking an innovative and outstanding Head of Geography from April/Sept 2024. The successful candidate will be required to teach all abilities across KS3 and KS4 to the highest standard developing a culture for excellence in Teaching and Learning within Geography. A willingness to support the Academy ethos and support of extra-curricular activities within the Academy is essential.You must be able to use a range of teaching strategies to inspire and motivate our students and demonstrate a commitment to sharing best practices with colleagues in the department.
Due to restructuring, we are seeking to appoint an inspiring and enthusiastic leader who will lead the Geography department. You should have a proven track record of effective leadership, evidence of quality teaching with a range of abilities, and demonstrating student progress across a department.
At Oasis Academy Sholing the Geography department aims to encourage students to develop empathy with other cultures, be curious about different places, improve their place knowledge, and be confident in a range of skills. The Geography Department is a team of 5 specialist Geography teachers, teaching 2 hours of Geography a week at KS3, and 3 hours at KS4. The department has a very successful uptake at GCSE options, currently 6 groups in Year 10, delivering the AQA specification. The Geography curriculum is well sequenced at Key Stage 3 encompassing the National Curriculum as well as topical and environmental issues. Year 9 particularly enjoys the topics - 'The Greatest Threat to our Planet' and 'Interconnectedness'. A range of up-to-date case studies are taught at a local, national, and global level. We also strive to include educational visits within the curriculum including trips to the coast, New Forest, London, and Iceland.
