Head of History job summary
About the role: Strood Academy has a rare opportunity for a talented and creative Head of History to join our department from September 2022 (or earlier dependent on the successful candidates availability). We are seeking to appoint an inspiring teacher who will play a pivotal role in the progress and drive of this department. You’ll be joining the department at an exciting time as the improvements we are making are gaining momentum. History is taught as a discrete subject to all pupils in Years 7-9 as part of the IB Middle Years programme framework and national curriculum. In years 10 and 11, pupils who opt for History follow the AQA specification. Results have steadily improved over the last 3 years and there is scope to really drive the department.
The Head of History must demonstrate aspects of leadership such as:
Up to date knowledge and understanding necessary to undertake the leading of a History department
A record of successful teaching as an outstanding classroom practitioner
Excellent team member
Energy, positivity, enthusiasm
Prepared to go the extra mile to enable students to do as well as possible

Act as a ‘role model’ of good practice in areas of the role, including effective teaching.
The basis of this role is full-time, permanent and a TLR of £4,783 (TLR 2b) which is negotiable dependent on experience.
