Head of Inclusion job summary

*Given the Trust’s unique cross-regional footprint, school holiday patterns vary across our local authority areas. As a central leader, the post holder will be expected to work a flexible schedule that ensures consistent strategic coverage and support during periods of school closure in Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland, North Yorkshire, Stockton and York. This will be in conjunction with the post holder and CEO or relevant ACEO. This is a senior leadership role that requires availability beyond the standard academic term to meet the operational needs of a 38-school Trust.

Nicholas Postgate Catholic Academy Trust is a family of 38 schools and two vibrant Sixth Form Colleges. With more than 12,300 pupils and 1,500 staff, NPCAT is now one of the largest multi-academy Trusts in the UK.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced educational leader who will drive the Trust-wide strategy for inclusion. Your focus will be on embedding a culture of continuous improvement and ensuring that statutory responsibilities are not just met, but exceeded.

As Head of Inclusion you will:

  • Be responsible for the vision, implementation and quality assurance of inclusion across the entire Trust, ensuring that every pupil, particularly those with SEND and those from disadvantaged backgrounds, receives a high-quality education that secures their sense of belonging and achievement.
  • Design and execute a robust Trust-wide Inclusion Strategy that aligns with the Diocese of Middlesbrough’s mission and national legislative reforms.
  • Establish rigorous systems for monitoring pupil progress, identifying trends, and auditing the effectiveness of SEND and Pupil Premium spending.
  • Lead the Trust-wide SENCO network, building professional capacity and ensuring high-quality inclusive classroom practice is a hallmark of every NPCAT school.
  • Provide advanced decision-making and strategic oversight for the most vulnerable pupils, including those requiring Alternative Provision or complex EHCP support.
  • Act as the Trust’s primary advocate for inclusion with Local Authorities, the DfE, and external agencies.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A proven track record of school improvement and a deep technical understanding of the SEND landscape.
  • Substantial experience in senior leadership with a focus on inclusion, SEND and vulnerable learner outcomes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice, EHCP processes and the strategic deployment of Pupil Premium.
  • The ability to analyse complex data to drive intervention and the gravitas to challenge and support Headteachers and Trust leaders.
  • A dedication to the Catholic ethos of the Trust, ensuring that inclusion is rooted in the dignity of every individual child.

We offer:

  • A Christ-centred Trust with supportive staff and Trust Board.
  • A Trust which exhibits very high standards in all areas of pupil achievement supported by a strong Catholic ethos, with gospel values at its heart, which permeates all aspects of Trust and School life.
  • A collaborative network of schools, where leaders and staff work collectively, sharing expertise, resources and best practice to drive improvement across the Trust.
  • A commitment to developing flourishing leaders at all levels, with clearly defined career pathways and succession planning across our family of schools.
  • Rich and varied opportunities for professional growth, including high-quality CPD, leadership development programmes and cross-Trust working.
  • A dedicated, talented and professional team who are highly committed to improving outcomes.
