What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking an inspiring Head of IT to join the school as we continue on our journey to providing an outstanding education for all in our care. Applicants must have a strong and secure knowledge of the IT curriculum across KS3,4 and 5. They will demonstrate knowledge of vocational education and how this supports the ambitions of the students. They will be able to maintain and build on a culture of success where all feel valued and proud of their achievements. They will be able to lead from the front, motivate members of the team to be the best practitioners they can be and ensuring excellent outcomes for all of our students.

The IT facilities at The Arnewood School include a number of PC suites with reliable high-end networked computers. The school has invested heavily in appropriate software and peripherals. Robotics and multi-media work are well developed components of our working.

The IT department is an established team delivering an organised curriculum for Computer Science, IT, and CGI that is well planned and resourced. The team develops students’ learning in an open door, calm and purposeful manner acting coherently in their teaching approach and always supporting each other to gain the most from the individual subjects and the individual students.

Teachers put an emphasis on success through high-quality learning using both GCSE and A-Level qualifications and vocational qualification for IT and CGI both at key stage 4 and 5. For the successful candidate this is a unique opportunity to join a dedicated team and shape the department's future success.

The successful candidate will demonstrate: -

  • a passion for computing / IT and teaching with an excellent subject knowledge and pedagogical understanding.
  • they are an excellent classroom practitioner, who is experienced in teaching at key stages 3, 4 and, ideally 5.
  • the ability to lead change, develop, motivate, challenge, support and inspire colleagues and students alike
  • outstanding success at achieving consistently good results.
  • the ability to create and facilitate highly challenging and engaging lessons
  • highest aspirations and expectations for all students and the IT team and lead this by personal example
  • aspiration to progress their career in the future
  • they are optimistic, positive, cheerful and develop others to flourish.
