About the Role

Astrea Sheffield Secondary is seeking an inspirational and ambitious Head of Modern Foreign Languages to lead our MFL department and drive excellence across teaching, learning and curriculum design. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated practitioner to influence the strategic development of languages across a growing and forward‑thinking academy.

As Head of MFL, you will shape an engaging, inclusive and academically rigorous language curriculum, champion high-quality practice, and foster a culture of aspiration and achievement. You will lead a committed team, support staff development, and play a key role in the academy’s wider improvement work.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Leading the MFL department and overseeing curriculum planning, delivery and assessment.
  • Supporting staff development and ensuring consistently high‑quality teaching and learning.
  • Using data, assessment and strategic planning to raise attainment across all key stages.
  • Modelling excellent classroom practice and promoting innovation and collaboration.
  • Contributing to whole‑school leadership, culture and ongoing improvement.
  • Championing inclusive practice and ensuring every student has access to an ambitious MFL offer.
What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a passionate and skilled leader who brings:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience teaching MFL across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
  • Proven leadership or middle‑management experience (desirable).
  • A strong commitment to inclusive, engaging and high‑impact MFL provision.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A genuine passion for languages and a drive to inspire students and staff alike.
