Inspire the next generation of leaders at Harris City Academy Crystal Palace 

We are seeking a qualified, experienced teacher to join our teaching team as Head of Music. 

Your opportunity

The Music department is a well-resourced curriculum area that delivers a wide variety of extra-curricular activities such as Jazz Band, Choir and African Drumming group. Academic music lessons take place in the music department building which is equipped with a Mac suite, recording studio and multiple practice rooms. Logic and Sibelius software is used from Year 7. GCSE and A-Level uptake is strong with the courses developing the musical skills and interests of students; enabling students to understand and appreciate a range of different kinds of music, across a multitude of cultures and genres.

The purpose of your role will be:
  • To raise standards of student attainment and achievement within Music and to monitor and support student progress.
  • To be accountable for the student progress and attainment within the subject area.
  • To develop and enhance the teaching practice of other teachers in the subject area.
  • To ensure the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students studying Music
  • To be accountable for leading, managing and developing the subject.
  • To effectively manage and deploy teaching/support staff, financial and physical resources within the subject area
  • To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students and to support a designated curriculum area as appropriate.
  • To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students as a teacher.
  • To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential.

We are looking for an effective and enthusiastic classroom teacher who will be able to complement our dedicated team of outstanding practitioners. The successful candidate will ideally have significant experience in inner-city, multi-racial and urban areas.

We are looking for a strong communicator with proven strengths in engaging with, inspiring and motivating, not just the school community, but the wider community. You should hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree.
