About the Role

The role of head of music is central to the school’s vision. At The Mangotsfield School we believe that students should have access to the highest calibre of performing arts whilst experiencing a wide range of creative opportunities to broaden their understanding of the world: through the curriculum and beyond. As Head of Music, you will work closely with the Head of Art and Drama to create a cohesive and effective curriculum offer, growing the numbers of students taking the subjects at Key Stage 4 whilst growing the creative confidence and resilience of our students through enrichment opportunities.

You will uphold our school values and ensure you are a role model for staff and students. You will be a strategic thinker and a dynamic and an innovative leader, who can plan and implement

change effectively. You will be personable, supportive and see the value in working collaboratively. You will be able to build effective relationships with peers so that your team can look to you for support and guidance. You will embrace diversity, value intellectual curiosity and understand the importance of evidence-based teaching.

About us

Mangotsfield School has been recognised by Ofsted as a “rapidly improving, community focused, ambitious school.” In March 2022 we were awarded Good in all categories, a testament to the vision and dedication of the leadership and teaching body.

Mangotsfield School has a strong ethos built on our four values. In all aspects of school life we encourage students to love learning, embrace challenge, give and earn respect and grow our community. Our classrooms, our corridors, our systems are built on these values and this supports our culture where we can meet individual needs and close the gaps for our students.

Mangotsfield School is a local secondary school firmly rooted in, and proudly working within the community which it serves. The school is situated in pleasant semi-rural surroundings on the north-eastern outskirts of Bristol. Mangotsfield School became an academy as part of the Castle School Education Trust in September 2015 and works in partnership with Downend School to deliver 16-19 opportunities for all students. We are committed to the professional development of all staff.

We can offer you:

  • Commitment to CPD and development of all staff
  • Commitment to inclusivity and fostering of diversity
  • Values and vision that are lived not laminated
  • Open and honest culture
  • Local Government pension scheme with generous employer contribution
  • Up to 30% discount with Microsoft & Dell

Everything at Mangotsfield School is based around its school
values driven by Headteacher, Hetty Blackmore. Having first
joined the school as a newly qualified teacher when she was
23 years old and returned to lead it later in her career, she is
very proud of the journey the school is on.

Mangotsfield School is proud to serve its community and has
been part of the local community since 1957. They have just
celebrated being rated as a ‘Good’ school by Ofsted (visit
March 2022).

There are wonderful resources and facilities on site, allowing
students to embrace curricular and extra-curricular
challenges from DT, art, dance, drama and a climbing wall to
name a few. There is a lot of open space, which is green and
calm. And this sense of calm is echoed in the school itself.
The school has a proud sporting history and teams have
travelled as far as Wembley to take part in national
competitions. The school is also on a mission to broaden
horizons with many co-curricular trips taking place, such as a
Year 7 trip to Slimbridge Wetlands for art research and a
Year 8 trip to Tyntesfield House to explore gothic horror
within the English curriculum.
