Head of Performing Arts Faculty - Part time job summary
The role of the Head of Faculty is important to both the strategic development of the school and the effective management of operations.
A Head of Faculty is expected to make a significant contribution to the core purpose of our school which is to ensure all our students, regardless of their background, achieve at least their academic potential. A Head of Faculty should meet all the National Standards for teachers and should demonstrate sustained, high performance against the school’s Professional Standards.
Principal Responsibilities
● The strategic leadership of high quality effective teaching and learning within a faculty area.
● To be accountable for the success of all subjects within the faculty area.
● Lead and manage the effective development of the curriculum within identified subject areas.
● The evaluation of the effectiveness of teaching and learning, standards of attainment, student progression with the faculty area.
● Lead and manage effectively all the staff who work within the faculty area. Ensure that staff are supported in Professional Development and that Performance Management is effective.
● Make a substantial contribution to whole-school strategic development by working closely with the Senior Leadership Team as part of the Leadership Team and through other professional meetings/activities.
● To work closely as and when required with the Governing Body to ensure that they understand the performance of the school.
Leadership and Management Responsibilities
● Ensure schemes of work are up to date and appropriate for our students.
● Analyse examination/test results and subject data. Use the data to improve standards of attainment through targeted professional development for colleagues and enhanced learning provision for students or groups of students.
● Ensure analysis of student progress is followed up with intervention strategies.
● Monitor the work of all subjects within the faculty area to ensure it is effective in raising student achievement. To intervene to support the academic progress of student/ss appropriately.
● Ensure that school policies are followed effectively within the faculty area. Be involved in the development of school policies.
● To ensure the quality of reports to parents and of any external communications with the community or agencies that support schools.
● Take responsibility for the Performance Management and Professional development of staff within the faculty area.
● Take responsibility for GTP and other professionals in training who may be allocated to the faculty area.
Teaching and Learning
● To promote a culture of shared practice so that teachers are both challenged and supported to teach consistently good and outstanding lessons.
● To ensure that all teachers within the Faculty prepare and deliver lessons that are well-planned and which challenge students to achieve high standards.
● To ensure that effective use is made of ICT and new technologies for teaching & learning.
● To ensure that there is proper coverage of the National Curriculum and the GCSE syllabus where appropriate, using learning strategies identified on individual education plans.
● To attend, contribute to and support the planning of INSET sessions.
● To contribute to school-wide enrichment programmes.
● To undertake other duties as may be required from time to time.

● To ensure that all teachers within the Faculty prepare and deliver lessons that are well-planned and which challenge students to achieve high standards.
