We are seeking an outstanding Head of Professional Learning & Development to drive one of our strategic priorities: Talent and Expertise. This new role is pivotal in shaping a best-in-class professional learning offer that empowers our people and ensures every child is taught by exceptional staff. You will have a high level of creative autonomy to design and deliver not what good looks like, but what great looks like. Your work will be meaningful and impactful.

About the Role

This is a career-defining opportunity for an experienced senior leader with a background in large-scale organisational talent management and pathways. You will:

  • Define and deliver a Trust-wide learning strategy that codifies what high-quality professional learning looks like.
  • Lead the redesign of our professional development offer, iterating on the Astrea Talent Programme to foster a culture of continual growth.
  • Work within the People & OD Directorate to embed employee experience as a critical organisational factor, creating value-led and engaging environments.
  • Assess and address what has the greatest impact on employee experience within the learning offer.

Your work will be crucial in maintaining our culture and ensuring we deliver the very best for our schools and their staff bodies.

What We’re Looking For

You will be:

  • A creative thinker with senior leadership experience and the ability to bring new ideas and perspectives.
  • Skilled in designing and implementing large-scale professional learning and development strategies.
  • A culture-builder who inspires collaboration, creativity, and growth.
  • Committed to our mission of ensuring every child has access to exceptional teaching and leadership.

What We Offer

You will be supported by a strong infrastructure and expert team, including:

  • A values-driven culture focused on growth, creativity, and collaboration.
  • Access to central teams in HR, Finance, Estates, and more.
  • The opportunity to lead transformational change and shape the future of professional learning across the Trust.
Why Join Us?

At Astrea, we’re redefining what truly great professional learning looks like and how impactful it can be. Our coaching culture is driven by a shared purpose: to make sure the students we serve have the very best staff in their classrooms and schools. This role is essential for enhancing our professional learning offer and supporting the development of the next generation of professionals who will shape children’s lives.
