We are excited to announce this fantastic opportunity for
an inspirational Leader to join us at Polden Bower School. This role is
permanent and is an excellent opportunity to develop your leadership career
within our partnership of schools. Polden Bower School has grown over the last few years and now has 222 children and young people on roll. There are 2 sites, the Albert Street Campus is where our youngest children Reception to Year 2 are based , moving to Bower Lane Campus from Year 3 to Year 14.
The Head of School role is a non-teaching role, there will be a priority focus on teaching and learning, safeguarding, parental engagement and curriculum design.
We are seeking an experienced leader who has a proven track record of effective leadership and who :
- Demonstrates effective leadership of a large team
- Is effective in strategic and operational planning, that includes self-evaluation, school improvement and delivery
- Demonstrates a shared vision with the Polden Bower & Avalon Federation, which inspires and motivates children and young people, staff and all members of our school community.
- Has Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and relevant leadership qualifications are highly desirable
- Exceptional communication, organisational and managerial skills are essential
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day leadership and management of the school,which includes both sites (Bower Lane Campus and Albert Street Campus)
- Develop and implement effective educational policies and practices tailored to the needs of our children and young people
- Lead, motivate, inspire and support a team of dedicated staff, fostering a nurturing, collaborative and cohesive work environment
- Engage with parents, the local community and external stakeholders to build positive relationships and support the schools aims

Polden Bower School was formed in 2021 after the amalgamation of Elmwood & Penrose Federation. The Executive Headteacher has the strategic oversight and provides executive leadership for Avalon School who joined Polden Bower School in September 2021 in a Hard Federation. The school is also in a formal partnership with The Bridge School, a Pupil Referral Unit in Bridgwater.
Polden Bower and Avalon Federation share the same Governance Board which is chaired by a very experienced Governor and Chair – David Purcell. David has been very supportive of the growing partnership and the work of the schools.
The partnership of schools provides professional development opportunities for all staff. The central business of the schools is managed by a core Central Team who work across the schools which includes finance, HR and premises.
