What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified Head of Science to provide inspirational leadership as well as expertise and commitment to the development of teaching and learning in Science. The successful candidate will build on the many strengths of the department, focusing on providing opportunities for students both within and beyond the classroom. They will lead a dedicated team of subject specialists who in recent years have secured strong examination results at all levels.
We need an experienced
teacher who will lead by example, is a team player, resilient, with excellent
organisational and communication skills and with a desire to develop other
staff within the department. Most importantly we need a leader who takes pride
in building relationships with stakeholders and believes strongly in the
ability of all students both within and beyond the classroom.
We would welcome
applicants from any scientific discipline and whilst a Chemistry background and
experience of teaching at Key Stage 5 is desirable it is not essential.
The Head of Department will take responsibility for providing leadership and management in Science to secure:
- High quality teaching
- Effective use of resources
- Improved standards of learning, achievement and progress for all students

The school joined Eden Learning Trust in December 2023 and has also benefitted from the PSBP programme; enabling a move to new state of the art facilities in January 2015. Student recruitment is consistently strong and the Academy has been oversubscribed in Year 7 for each of the last 5 years. This is also the case for September 2024, whilst KS5 numbers also increasing.
