Head of Science (with Responsibility for the Science & IT Faculty) job summary
We are seeking to appoint an experienced, highly effective, and ambitious leader to the role of Head of Science, with strategic responsibility for our Science and IT Faculty. There is an existing Third in Faculty with responsibility for IT within the faculty. This is a key middle leadership role at the school and provides an opportunity for an aspiring or established middle leader ready to take the next step in their leadership journey.
The successful candidate will join a stable and well‑established faculty with a strong culture of collaboration, professional development, and high expectations. Outcomes in Science are above the national average, and the faculty is well‑resourced, with a committed team of subject specialists across both Science and IT.
The postholder will build on the faculty’s existing strengths while providing clear strategic direction, driving continued improvement, and securing excellence in teaching, learning, and student outcomes across Science and IT.
We are looking for a candidate who:
As a Catholic school, we are committed to placing Christ at the centre of all that we do. We seek leaders who will actively support and contribute to our Catholic mission, values, and ethos, and who recognise the distinctive role of a Catholic education in the formation of the whole person.
Has experience of leading Science (or a closely related faculty) in a secondary school setting
- Can demonstrate a sustained record of raising attainment and maintaining high standards
Is confident in leading curriculum development and innovation across Science and IT
- Possesses strong leadership, communication, and team‑development skills
- Is committed to high‑quality teaching, learning, and student achievement
- Is ready for, or already experienced in, wider faculty leadership responsibilities
This post is not suitable for Early Career Teachers (ECTs). Applicants must have relevant leadership experience and be able to demonstrate clear impact in a middle leadership role.
We offer:
- A supportive and visible senior leadership team
- A stable, collaborative, and committed staff body
- Well‑behaved, motivated, and ambitious students
An excellent opportunity to lead the Science faculty and shape its next stage of development
This post represents a significant and rewarding leadership opportunity for a candidate who is passionate about Science education, committed to excellence, and ready to make a lasting impact.
