Norton College is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Teacher or Head of Department to join our vibrant Technology Department. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a popular and well-resourced department, where Design Technology (DT) and Food Technology thrive, offering both creative and practical learning experiences for our students.

About the Department:

The Technology Department at Norton College is an integral part of the school, featuring a well-equipped DT workshop and a modern Food Technology room.

The DT workshop boasts a wide array of tools and machinery, including traditional woodworking equipment, CAD/CAM resources such as a 3D printer and laser cutter, as well as access to IT facilities.

  • The Food Technology room accommodates up to 20 students, working in pairs, and is equipped with all the necessary resources for hands-on culinary lessons.

At Key Stage 3, students study the Eatwell Guide in Food Technology, along with practical and written work. In DT, they focus on graphic communication, tools, materials, processes, and Health & Safety.

At Key Stage 4, students have the option to pursue either GCSE Design and Technology or GCSE Food Technology, both of which are extremely popular choices. Recent examination results for Food Technology showed significant progress, reflecting the department’s high standards and effective curriculum.

The Role:

As a Teacher or Head of Department, you will be responsible for:

Teaching Design Technology from Year 7 to Year 11 and elements of Food Technology.

  • Delivering engaging lessons that inspire students and foster a love for creative and technical subjects.
  • Supporting students in both practical and theoretical elements of the subjects, enabling them to achieve their best.
  • For Head of Department candidates: Leading the Technology department, managing resources, and ensuring high standards across teaching and learning.

The salary for Head of Department attracts an additional TLR of £3,391 per annum

What We Are Looking For:

  • A passionate and dedicated teacher with experience in teaching Design Technology, plus Food Technology (desirable)
  • Strong subject knowledge and the ability to deliver GCSE Design and Technology.
  • For Head of Department candidates: Proven leadership experience and the ability to motivate and manage a successful team.
  • A commitment to high-quality teaching and learning, with excellent classroom management skills.
  • A desire to contribute to the wider school community and support extracurricular activities where possible.
