What skills and experience we're looking for
- Are you a highly skilled, successful teacher with a passion for pastoral care of young people in schools?
- Are you an ambitious practitioner with a proven track record of pastoral care as a form tutor or pastoral leadership role?
- Do you have a commitment to supporting a team of tutors to support students in their tutor group and to successfully deliver a personal development programme that has been accredited as “leading” by Challenge Partners? (Challenge Partners review March 2024)
- Would you like to lead our new Year 7 intake from September 2025 and have the opportunity to shape their transition from primary to secondary school?
- Do you have the skills and experience to support students to thrive in all of their subjects and provide support and guidance at every stage of their school life?

Waingels, a popular 11-18 school where students achieved above national average in all measures and was identified as “continuing to be good” in a recent OFSTED inspection, is seeking to appoint aHead of Yearto join an existing team of dedicated, caring Heads of Year and Assistant Heads of Year, to lead a year group including the team of form tutors.
The successful candidate will, with support, lead the Year 6 to Year 7 transition of approximately 240 students.
The successful candidate for this key role will lead a team of tutors and work closely with the Deputy Headteacher, Assistant Headteacher and other Heads of Year to ensure that all students in the year group are able to achieve their potential both academically and socially as well as developing them as a person. You will regularly work with students, their parents/carers and, where appropriate outside agencies, to support students at all times, helping them to maintain high standards of behavior, attendance and punctuality. You will work with relevant Heads of Subject and teachers to track the progress of students and identify those who are achieving well, those who are improving and those who need further support to achieve. You will be responsible for coordinating the successful delivery of our personal development program and for promoting opportunities for your year group to engage with, such as extra-curricular clubs.
