Head of Year job summary

Head of Year

The College is currently seeking to appoint a suitably experienced Head of Year to start in April 2025 or earlier.

The College operates a system whereby Heads of Year remain with their cohort as they move up through the school, allowing for strong and trusting relationships to be formed with pupils and their families.  The successful candidate will have a vital role to play in further establishing the ethos of the school and our reputation in the local community, as well as working to ensure that every pupil in their year group fulfils his or her potential in all areas of school life. You will be required to make a meaningful commitment to the teaching timetable and a flexible approach may be necessary, since some teaching in a non-specialist subject may be required (discussed at interview).

Cambourne Village College is an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ rated, over-subscribed secondary school, eight miles from Cambridge. We opened as an academy of the Cam Academy Trust in September 2013. Our ethos is aspirational and inclusive, our staff is highly motivated, our pupils courteous and hard-working, and we have excellent facilities. A 350 place sixth form opened in September 2024, with room for175 students in each of Years 12 and 13. We are ambitious for our Sixth Form to reflect the successes of our main school, where results are consistently strong, with excellent Progress 8 scores. Cambourne Village College is a 1:1 iPad school, with all students having a personal device.

Joining Cambourne Village College represents a unique opportunity to work in a newly-established school within a wider, high-quality Academy Trust that gives excellent possibilities for professional and career development.

The full current curriculum for all year groups can be viewed on the College website: https://www.cambournevc.org/curriculum . Full details are provided on the job description and person specification.

Cambourne Village College, an academy of The Cam Academy Trust, opened in brand new premises in September 2013 with just five forms of Year 7 pupils. Serving one of the fastest-growing communities in the UK, we now have more than 1300 pupils on roll, with major further expansion planned, including the opening of our new sixth form centre in September 2024.

The College has enjoyed remarkable success since opening, gaining an early Ofsted Outstanding rating along with designation as a Leading Edge School. Our pupils achieve excellent results in public examinations via a curriculum designed to offer maximum breadth and opportunity for all abilities. Our extra-curricular offer is also outstanding: annual musical drama performances, termly concerts, a wide range of competitive and recreational sporting activities, and many further clubs and events are on offer. In 2019, we were granted the International School Award by the British Council and are looking forward to re-launching our programme of international visits and exchanges this year.

We strive to be a welcoming and inclusive school for our pupils and also to fulfil our Village College ethos in serving the whole community: we support an active adult education programme and more than 30 local groups and organisations make use of the school’s facilities, out of hours. This unusual commitment to our local community was a key factor in our winning a prestigious Silver Award in the ‘Making a Difference’ category of the Pearson School of the Year celebrations in 2018.
