Head of Year and Teacher (Yr 5-8) job summary

Dedworth Middle School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Head of Year to join our team. The successful candidate will be committed to supporting the personal and academic development of our pupils. Whether you are a primary or secondary trained teacher, we welcome applications from individuals who possess strong leadership qualities and a drive to make a positive difference in the lives of young people. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic teacher to join our team on a permanent basis with additional responsibilities as Head of Year. We are looking for someone who:

  • Has qualified teacher status, regardless of subject or primary/secondary training.
  • Will deliver high-quality teaching and learning experiences to inspire and motivate students.
  • Has the ability to inspire, motivate, and enthuse students to achieve their best.
  • Can demonstrate the ability to deliver outstanding teaching and learning experiences.
  • Has strong leadership qualities and ambition to drive positive change.
  • Is patient, resilient, and empathetic with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Fosters positive and supportive relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
  • Will uphold the ethos and values of the DMS school community.
  • Will coach and support their year team.

This is a teaching position, but sufficient time will be designated to carry out the Head of Year role. The requirements of this role include leading the year group with a focus on providing pastoral support and guidance to pupils, prioritising their well-being, behaviour, attendance and academic progress. You would be expected to work closely with staff, parents and pupils to ensure pupils in the year group reach their full potential and demonstrate high standards and expectations, fostering a culture of excellence within the year group.
