Head of Year job summary

Creating tomorrow’s citizens today

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and committed Head of Year.

As Head of Year, you will work collaboratively with your tutors, the pastoral team, and other middle and senior leaders across our all-through school. We are looking to appoint someone to develop and embed an ethos of high expectations, outstanding attitudes to learning, academic excellence and exemplary conduct within the Year Group. You will be expected to monitor and support the academic progress of students, working with subject leaders and classroom teachers to ensure that all students are challenged, supported, and able to achieve their full potential.

You will develop strong professional relationships with students and parents, using data to identify barriers to academic progress and implementing timely interventions to address these. You will also liaise with external agencies and stakeholders to support our students and families and work closely with members of the wider pastoral team including safeguarding and attendance.

Simon Balle All-through School prides itself on the outstanding levels of pastoral care that we offer to all of our students. Our aim is to create an ethos and an environment where each student can be happy, succeed, and thrive in every aspect of their education – both personally and academically – alongside flourishing as an individual and as a good citizen. Our vision of a society where all people feel included, are respected and treated with dignity, live well with each other, and have the necessary knowledge, skills, and wisdom in order to flourish, is at the heart of the Simon Balle community.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be an outstanding practitioner and inspirational leader;

  • Have a proven track record of success in raising student attainment;

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to both the academic and pastoral development of young people;

  • Be a committed team-player;

  • Be ambitious to professionally develop themselves and their team.

We look forward to receiving your application.
