What skills and experience we're looking for

We are recruiting an inspiring Headteacher to lead our vibrant and inclusive primary school at the heart of Hainault.

John Bramston is a thriving and successful two-form entry primary school, serving a diverse community of around 440 pupils and their families. We take a child-centred approach to all that we do and our pupil voice is strong:

"Be proud. Be unique. Difference is normal."

We are dedicated to delivering an education that is built on respect, inclusion and ambition for all. We have a strong team of committed staff who put children at the heart of their work, creating a warm and welcoming environment where every child feels valued, listened to and able to succeed. We deliver a high standard of learning through a broad and engaging curriculum that develops both academic and creative skills and is tailored for their needs, as well as a range of extracurricular clubs. We are also committed to creating confident and motivated young people who aspire to be an active part of their community and help shape the world around them. As Headteacher, you will uphold this ethos and reinforce our values:

Aspiration and achievement. Creativity and enjoyment. Respect and responsibility.

We are proud to have achieved Gold Awards from both the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools programme and the School Mental Health Awards. We also have an Artsmark Gold Award and Silver RE Award. Our last Ofsted report in September 2023 confirmed that the school is good. It also said, “Pupils are happy and feel safe … The school has high expectations for all pupils. In lessons, pupils are attentive and eager to learn. They work hard and achieve well.” We believe our personal development of pupils, and their behaviour and attitudes, are outstanding and we are working to sustain this and further develop our approach.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the school from an already strong position into an even better future. We have worked hard to maintain a positive budget. We have also been approved by DfE for a full school rebuild, which provides a fantastic opportunity for a Headteacher to bring our strong school culture into a new building that is fit for the future that we envision, making better use of our resources and providing greater possibilities for our role at the heart of the community.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an excellent and inspirational leader, with a background as either a Headteacher or an experienced Deputy Headteacher
  • Be dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for all pupils, underpinned by a strong understanding of their own rights
  • Be committed to inclusion, safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
  • Have excellent communication skills and be able to develop strong and positive relationships with all stakeholders – pupils, staff, parents, governors, and the wider community
  • Champion a curriculum that reflects diverse needs and backgrounds
  • Be an effective financial manager, able to respond proactively to financial challenges, seize opportunities and create positive solutions to maintain our positive financial position
  • Be a strong strategic thinker with a powerful vision for the future of our school, and able to take others on this journey with us

What the school offers its staff

We offer:

  • A strong, stable and passionate staff team dedicated to our child-centred, values-based approach
  • Happy, engaged children who are proud of their school
  • A welcoming ethos fostering respect, inclusion and social responsibility
  • The opportunity to lead the design and rebuild of the school site, providing a strong platform for future innovation and creativity, improved facilities and sustainability, and stronger relationships with the community
  • A positive financial position and strong business management support
  • A highly supportive Leadership Team, Governing Body and parent community
