About Merrydale   Primary School:

Merrydale Junior School is for children aged 7 to 11 years old, there are approximately 360 children on roll. Merrydale is a very friendly community school, where families are encouraged to learn together and give their children the confidence to succeed.

Merrydale Junior School has been with Discovery Trust for many years.The school was graded as ‘Good’ by Ofsted in October 2019, and continues to strive to be a fantastic place for children to learn. Discovery Schools Academies Trust has grown to 13 primary and 2 special schools and will continue to grow with a clear strategic plan for growth. 

The School is a Microsoft Incubator school leading the way in the use of digital technology to support learning and the reduction of workload for staff. They have digital devices for individuals to support learning and dedicated technical support. The children compete in the Trust Esports league and have access to drones, VR Headsets, and other STEM equipment to enrich their curriculum.

Merrydale engages fully with Inspiring Leaders and Discovery’s SCITT, providing high-quality Teacher training placements each year and contributing to assessment, moderation, and support across the partnership. This year the school will be appointing ECT’s who have trained with them on the SCITT.

 It is a vibrant and diverse setting and a school where colleagues celebrate and promote children’s backgrounds, aspirations and achievements.


Headteacher based at Merrydale Junior Primary School 

Due to the retirement of our current Headteacher, we have an exciting opportunity to recruit an inspirational leader who has the ability and ambition to ensure Merrydale Junior School remains an excellent place to learn and work and continues to have one foot in the future, preparing students for the 21st Century world.

This is an extremely exciting opportunity for an experienced Headteacher seeking the opportunity to apply their leadership expertise within the setting of Merrydale Junior school, whilst having an active role within school improvement across Discovery Trust.

The Head Teacher will work closely with the Director of Primary, being deployed one day a week delivering school improvement and Trust strategy work. With the Trust growing in size, there will be the opportunity to develop the role and contribute more widely to the Trust as a whole, we therefore are looking for a leader with an excellent leadership track record, a desire for system wide leadership and an established understanding of effective school improvement.
