Headteacher job summary

We are seeking a Headteacher who has the passion, drive, and enthusiasm to rapidly build on Miltoncross Academy’s existing strengths; to lead, motivate, develop, and inspire a school team of staff and governors who are passionately committed to giving pupils a wide range of real-life and enriching experiences within a culture of highest expectations.

About the school

As one of six secondary schools within the ‘Coast’ region within The Kemnal Academies Trust (TKAT), we take pride in our geographic location and in our role as a ‘community’ secondary school. With a current and growing role of 815 students (Years 7-11), we are a vibrant and diverse community with high expectations for all our pupils. Judged to be a ‘good’ school by Ofsted in October 2017, our vision is for every member of our school community to ‘flourish’. We aim to provide a high quality, innovative education ensuring that every student has the opportunity to fulfil their maximum potential. Our curriculum is built upon a strong academic GCSE core and delivered through creative and engaging teaching.

Vision and Values:

Miltoncross is an Academy at the heart of its community that enables outstanding achievement, develops the highest aspirations for all and provides first rate opportunities.

As part of The Kemnal Academies Trust, we have access to the expertise, support and opportunities offered by one of the larger multi-academy trusts in the country. Our staff are dedicated to improving the lives of our students and, unusually, regardless of seniority, every teacher teaches. In this way, all our staff maintain the highest possible standards with regards to subject knowledge and the challenges of the changing secondary curriculum.

We have 6 values that underpin the education we deliver to our students:

Self-belief

Teamwork

Respect

Integrity

Values

Excellence

Working for TKAT – ‘Inspiring Learners, Changing Lives’:

Leadership within TKAT schools requires passion, understanding, empathy and above all, a genuine love for the profession. Our role is to support you by giving you the flexibility to work how and when you need to; to open up opportunities to develop your career; to take care of your wellbeing at work; to enable you to flourish as an individual and to offer the kind of rewards you can only find from improving the prospects and life chances for literally thousands of children and young people.

Why work for TKAT?

The freedom to shape your school within Trust guiding principles

A support network second-to-none: We passionately believe in the power of collaborative working and actively promote school-to-school support. This includes accessing support from our strong Teaching School Alliance who offer a range of high-quality professional development opportunities for staff at all levels. In this role, you will also have the direct support of a Director of Education, not to mention the strength of the wider TKAT group.

Boundless opportunities for career progression: When you deliver and achieve, you will be rewarded for your success – and that could be from leading multiple schools, to additional responsibilities that will impact across TKAT, through to Directorships. If you are ambitious, we’ll help you succeed.

For more information and an informal discussion, please contact Mike Garlick, Director of Education via Mike.Garlick@tkat.org

To apply, please download and complete an Application Form and return it to hr@tkat.org which includes an outline of no more than 2 sides of A4, of what attracts you to Miltoncross Academy, your own values and how they relate to TKAT and the Academy values, and your qualities against the person specification.

In addition, and again on no more than 2 sides of A4, outline how you would expect your success to have impacted after 3 years, 1 year and your first term, referring to the Job Description.
