A very warm welcome to Oakwood Infant and Nursery School.

Situated in Alvaston in the city of Derby, our school is at the heart of the local and very diverse community. We serve 270 children between the ages of 4 and 7 and their families within our Infant school and offer a further 39 places for children aged 3-4 years in our Nursery from a wide variety of social backgrounds.

We pride ourselves on being a family-orientated school, teaching with compassion through the key values of trust, friendship and honesty. We are an inclusive school where all children feel they belong and every child has a champion who believes in them. This was recognised and celebrated through the recent award of a “Good” judgement from Ofsted (May 2023).

Oakwood Infant School has a significant SEN cohort. We are looking for a leader who is passionate about working with learners with special educational needs and who can continue to build exceptional teaching and learning in a setting where everyone is truly valued, supported and works as a team to deliver excellence. They will continuously strive to enhance learning opportunities for all pupils through setting high expectations and communicating and delivering a strong and aspirational vision for the school.

Positive relationships are at the core of all we do, so the new Headteacher will need to have outstanding skills in building relationships with our community and all who serve it. There needs to be a commitment to a holistic approach in developing our children and to ensuring that all children get the best possible advantages as they take the next step on their journey.

The successful candidate will be supported not only by a team of dedicated professionals, but also by a committed Board of Governors with a broad range of skills and experience. These people provide both challenge and encouragement to get the best out of you, in a relationship based on mutual respect and trust.
