Start Date: January/April 2026
The Yorkshire Learning Trust are looking to appoint an outstanding professional to lead Sherburn High School. This is a rare opportunity for a visionary leader to further develop and improve our successful school.
Sherburn High School is at a pivotal moment in its journey. Currently a thriving community school of just under 1,000 students, our roll is projected to rise to around 1,400 in the coming years. This growth will see Sherburn develop into a large and significant secondary, with the opportunities and resources that brings. For the right leader, it offers the rare chance to shape a growing school, strengthen its culture, and position it as a flagship within the local and wider educational landscape.
You will have successful previous experience of school leadership, with a commitment to high academic standards and social cohesion. You will be an excellent communicator, have a warm personality and be an unfailing advocate for achievement for all.
You will play a significant role in our fast-developing multi-academy trust working closely with other head teachers and the CEO with a joint commitment to doing the right thing for all the children and young people in our care.
You will work with a talented and committed staff who continually challenge their own practice to enable our young people to achieve their aspirations and play a meaningful role in their community and beyond.
We believe that Sherburn High is an 11-18 school, which is big enough to deliver, but small enough to care. We are extremely proud of the open and welcoming nature of the school from both the staff and students; the sheer variety of activities offered both within the curriculum and after school hours. We are proud of our student outcomes, our strong reputation for looking after our students and where high standards of conduct are non-negotiable.
We are fortunate to have an established and cohesive team of outstanding practitioners within a successful and vibrant school. At Sherburn we do not limit our definition of achievement simply to academic pursuits. We believe in developing well-rounded individuals and, as such, we make a significant investment in sports and the arts.
The platform we have for continual improvement is secure. The students here are fantastic to work with. The staff body is professional, supportive, and collaborative; there is a positive, aspirational atmosphere and an impressive level of commitment from everyone to continue moving the school forward.
Sherburn High School is a friendly, top performing and innovative school set in an attractive position in the North Yorkshire rural village of Sherburn in Elmet, which is only 10 minutes from the A1(M) hence making it easily and quickly accessible from Leeds, York, Doncaster, Bradford, Pontefract and the surrounding areas.
Potential applicants are encouraged to contact the school if further information is required. Please contact Heather Robson HR Advisor by email on heather.robson@shs.starmat.uk
Closing Date: 9am Wednesday 15th October 2025
Interviews will be held: Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd October 2025
