Headteacher job summary

START DATE - JANUARY 2021

CLOSING DATE - WEDNESDAY 23RD SEPTEMBER 2020

INTERVIEWS - 28 SEPTEMBER

Following the promotion of Mr Garfield, the current Headteacher of The Academy Selsey, to another secondary academy within TKAT, we are seeking a Headteacher who has the passion, drive and enthusiasm to build on the school’s existing strengths, to lead, motivate, develop and inspire a school team of staff and governors who are passionately committed to giving pupils a wide range of real-life and enriching experiences within a culture of highest expectations.

This is an exciting opportunity to pick up the reins of a school on an improving trajectory, following a Good Ofsted outcome in April 2019. With an increasing roll (currently 420), a brand new building and facilities, and a positive financial position, the successful candidate will be encouraged to focus on continuing to improve student outcomes to at least national averages, extend the curriculum offering, develop future leaders, and build on the positive reputation developed by the current head to further increase the school population from the immediate and wider areas.

About the school

As one of six secondary schools within the ‘Coast’ region within The Kemnal Academies Trust (TKAT), we take pride in our geographic location and in our role as a ‘community’ secondary school. We embrace all that the coastline has to offer to provide our young people with a unique approach to education that makes full use of the assets on our doorstep. We offer a positive and challenging curriculum within a stimulating and nurturing education environment, recognised by Ofsted in our recent inspection where they stated “leaders and governors have created a welcoming and positive culture that permeates all aspects of the school’s life. As a result, pupils thrive and standards are rising.”

Vision and Key principals

The Academy Selsey is proud to be at the heart of our community and, as such, creates thoughtful, expedient and successful citizens. Everyone at The Academy Selsey is recognised and nurtured as an individual. It is our aim to recognise each individual’s talents, skills and abilities, and provide rigorous support to enable them to be the best version of themselves; academically, socially, and morally. Through the highest expectations, standards of teaching and pastoral care, students are encouraged and expected to aspire and excel.

As part of The Kemnal Academies Trust, we have access to the expertise, support and opportunities offered by one of the larger multi-academy trusts in the country. Our staff are dedicated to improving the lives of our students and, unusually, regardless of seniority, every teacher teaches. In this way, all our staff maintain the highest possible standards with regards to subject knowledge and the challenges of the changing secondary curriculum.

Community is firmly placed at the heart of the school; we are fully committed to doing everything possible to support the wider community in which we live and work. This mutually beneficial arrangement is critical to our success and central to our existence as a school in a geographically isolated area. In short, our ultimate wish is to ensure that everyone at The Academy, Selsey is wholly supported to be the best version of themselves that they can be.
