Headteacher job summary

The Governors of Woodlands Primary and Nursery School are looking to appoint a new Headteacher with a strong sense of purpose and ambition who demonstrates a high level of commitment, drive and determination to ensure that all pupils get the best possible start in life. The highly successful current Headteacher is leaving to take up new challenges after ten years in post, during which time the school has developed a clear sense of cohesion and consistency, with a focus upon continual school improvement. The school was rated as ‘Good’ in the most recent Ofsted Inspection (pub. December 2017); the Early Years Provision was regarded as ‘Outstanding’. The new Headteacher will inherit these strong foundations and, therefore, we wish to appoint an inspirational and committed leader who will strive to take the school forward.

Woodlands Primary School is located in the rapidly expanding town of Telford, adjacent to the World Heritage site of Ironbridge, in the beautiful county of Shropshire. The school offers a vibrant learning environment and is proud of its inclusivity, where everyone works hard to ensure that all pupils whatever their starting point receive stimulating learning experiences. The proportion of disadvantaged pupils and those with SEN and/or disabilities is above the national average. However, pupils’ achievement and progress is good and continues to improve thanks to high quality continuous professional development of a cohesive and dedicated team of staff guided by a strong leadership team. The Governing Body is experienced, supportive and very much aware of the school’s place in the local community. Safeguarding arrangements are in place and effective. The school is a caring community in which the children feel safe and are respectful to others.

At Woodlands, learning is relevant, purposeful and enjoyable; academic achievement is important in preparing pupils for the future. A major aim in the school’s vision is to help children develop inquiring minds and to prepare themselves for life.

What will the successful candidate bring to our school?

• A proven track record as a Leader in the Primary phase
• Ambition to build upon current successes

• An awareness and a desire to promote the school within the
local and the wider Community.
