Are you excited about the opportunity to work with our committed and enthusiastic Key Stage 3 students within the Science curriculum? Then Ashby School is the place for you!

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and determined teacher with a passion for their subject, the ability to enthuse and engage students and the dedication, commitment, and openness to strategies to raise attainment at Key Stage 3 and 4. We also offer the opportunity to work with our committed and enthusiastic Key Stage 5 students for the right candidate. We are also particularly interested in those applicants who may be able to offer Health & Social Care to our KS5 students.

Conveniently located close to the M42 and M1, within easy reach of several areas of outstanding natural beauty and with the national forest on the doorstep, the school is set in its own attractive grounds in the expanding market town of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire.

The post offers an exceptional opportunity for either an experienced teacher looking for a new challenge, or an individual new to the profession seeking to grow their pedagogy in a student and staff centred Academy. We offer an excellent Continued Professional Development programme within a supportive environment and are committed to continuous improvement in both teaching and learning.

The Physical Education Faculty at Ashby School consists of a team of 8 members of staff who are all incredibly passionate about delivering an inclusive and enjoyable Physical Education curriculum. We have excellent facilities consisting of a large sports hall, separate gym, fitness suite, outside hard play area, swimming pool, extensive fields and 3 classrooms. We have fully incorporated recent technological developments into our curriculum. All staff have their own laptop and iPad, each classroom is equipped with a projector and sound system.

We offer examination level Physical Education to students at both KS4 and KS5. At KS4 we offer GCSE Physical Education and CNAT Sports Studies and at KS5 we offer GCE A Level and CTec L3 Sport. These courses are very popular and often over-subscribed.

Our faculty has a very clear vision.

'Inspire a generation - we want all students to enjoy, succeed and develop essential life skills within our Physical Education curriculum. We provide a broad range of opportunities to improve students' health and well-being and to promote lifelong participation in physical activity.'

As a faculty, we offer a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities to our students at both a competitive and recreational standard. School teams compete in inter-school and county competitions. Many achieve county and regional success.

We also centre our delivery of our Personal Development curriculum within our PE faculty. We believe that our Personal Development curriculum should complement the wider curriculum and ensure that young people have a rounded education that equips them to cope with everyday life and their development into adulthood. Academic qualifications are important, but young people also need to develop emotional resilience, life and social skills including knowing how to keep safe and how to look after their physical and mental health. This wider education is especially important during the teenage years, as our young people are growing up in an increasing complex world. This curriculum ensures they are fully equipped to excel and make anything possible in modern day Britain.

The Personal Development Curriculum at Ashby School incorporates Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) including the statutory content for Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), Citizenship and Careers Education. It is a curriculum through which students develop the knowledge, skills and attributes needed to manage their lives, both now and in the future.

Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education - Helping students to develop confidence and skills to manage relationships and make healthy lifestyle choices (including drug/alcohol awareness, sex and relationships education)

Careers education – helping students to explore career opportunities, and ass their own skills to enable them to make informed choices about their Post 16 and Post 18 routes.

Citizenship – helping students become active, informed and responsible citizens (includes learning about laws, politics, environmental issues and human rights) Students are taught about British Values through the citizenship curriculum.

Our Personal Development curriculum focuses on the holistic development of our students. Our ‘three Rs’ of respect, responsibility and resilience are actively promoted in this subject. This enables our students to embrace the challenges they face as they progress through the key stages. Spiritual, Moral, Social, Cultural (SMSC) development is promoted throughout our Personal Development curriculum.

Spiritual - Explore beliefs and experience; respect faiths, feelings and values; enjoy learning about oneself, others and the surrounding world; use imagination and creativity; reflect.

Moral - Recognise right and wrong; respect the law; understand consequences; investigate moral and ethical issues; offer reasoned views.

Social - Use a range of social skills; participate in the local community; appreciate diverse viewpoints; participate, volunteer and cooperate; resolve conflict; engage with the 'British values' of democracy, the rule of law, liberty, respect and tolerance.

Cultural - Appreciate cultural influences; appreciate the role of Britain's parliamentary system; participate in culture opportunities; understand, accept, respect and celebrate diversity.

Our PE faculty proves daily that anything is possible as we challenge ourselves and our preconceptions. This ethos permeates everything we do and is a huge factor in achieving our end goal: a healthy, happy and physically active student.

We are proud of the work we do at Ashby School; if you are passionate about your subject, share our enthusiasm for teaching and learning and are seeking to develop your practice in a supportive and dynamic school, we would be delighted to hear from you.
