Sidegate Primary School s seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our supportive team. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated individual to play a key role in delivering high-quality learning support across the school.
Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
Location: Sidegate Primary School
Contract: Fixed-term until 31/08/2026, 15 Hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term time, plus 5 PD days)
Work Pattern: All day Wednesday, all day Thursday, and Friday morning
Closing Date: 3rd December 2025
Summary of Key Responsibilities
- Undertake specified work with individuals, groups and whole classes under the direction and supervision of a qualified teacher.
- Plan, prepare and deliver specified learning activities to individuals, groups and/or classes modifying and adapting activities as necessary.
- To provide short term cover supervision of classes, as required

Sidegate is a vibrant three-form entry primary school in the north of Ipswich. The school hosts a 25 place Specialist Education Unit for pupils with moderate learning difficulties, giving approximately 655 pupils on roll. The school boasts large grounds, an indoor swimming pool, gymnasium and good ICT provision. We pride ourselves in the broad and engaging curriculum we offer our pupils; sport and culture
feature highly and are used to enhance the curriculum in all areas. The school received a “Good” Ofsted rating in October 2022. We were the first primary school in Suffolk to be awarded the prestigious Platinum Artsmark in November 2019; we also hold quality marks in RE, Science and Sport.
Sidegate became an academy in May 2014 with The Active Learning Trust (ALT). ALT encourages each of their schools to develop a curriculum that meets the needs of the pupils in the school. They work closely with the school, providing specialist advisory support as necessary. We work closely with other schools in the ALT Ipswich Hub and the Northgate Pyramid of Schools.
