Higher Level Teaching Assistant job summary

The children, staff and Trust of St Laurence Catholic Primary are looking for an excellent Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our caring and supportive team. Evidence of supporting teaching and learning in Key Stage 1 and/or Key Stage 2 is essential, as is demonstrable experience of working with pupils with Special Educational Needs. You will be committed to making learning irresistible, inclusive and effective for the children in our school.

As HLTA, you will be expected to deliver lessons in the absence of the teacher, covering PPA time and sickness in line with the requirements of your job description. As well as this, some break and lunch duty cover will be required. Your main role would be to lead a small base for SEND pupils, with a team of TA's. We may also request that you take on wider responsibilities within the school.

You will need to:-

  • Have experience of working with pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs, and be committed to their inclusion in our school.
  • Independently plan and teach groups of learners.
  • Run intervention sessions.
  • Teach phonics and speech and language catch-up programmes.
  • Have high expectations of pupil outcomes and progress.
  • Encourage excellent behaviours and act as a role model to our pupils.
  • Develop good relationships with pupils, parents, carers and colleagues.
  • Have, or be working towards, HLTA qualifications.
  • Be educated to GCSE (or equivalent level) grade 4 (formally grade C), in English and Maths.
