What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for enthusiastic, innovative and inspiring practitioners to enhance our hardworking, professional team as a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), working within our Federation. Due to staff who are currently in these roles moving on to undertake Initial Teacher Training, we have a number of exciting vacancies in different year groups at both of our schools. Successful candidates will be matched to roles most suited to their skills and experiences, as well as considering the overall needs of both schools.

We would be particularly pleased to receive applications from qualified teachers looking to gain more experience before securing a teaching position, graduates with an interest in gaining experience before undertaking a future pathway in the education sector and candidates who have experience of working in similar roles previously.

What the school offers its staff

As a Federation we can offer:

  • A friendly, progressive and diverse school community;
  • A modern learning environment that is constantly evolving;
  • A learning environment where ‘pupils’ conduct is exemplary’ and ‘pupils show highly positive attitudes to their learning.’ (Armitage OFSTED, March 2019) and ‘Pupils behave well in lessons and around the school. Pupils enjoy their learning…low level disruption is rare. ‘All Saints OFSTED November 2022)
  • Opportunities to earn flexible days off based on 100% attendance – further improving the work/life balance of our staff;
  • An earlier end to the school day every Friday, planned with staff well-being in mind;
  • A supportive and forward-thinking leadership team;

  • A collaborative working relationship with staff across the federation;
  • A commitment to professional development for all staff.

Further details about the role

The successful candidate will need to:

  • Have high expectations and the commitment to secure the best outcomes for children;
  • Have the ability to lead and plan a lesson – further training can be given if experience is limited;
  • Have excellent communication and team working skills;
  • Work flexibly under the direction of the Headteacher.

We are committed to safer recruitment practice and safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we expect staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Pre-employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed.

Whilst the post is initially temporary until August 2025, this will be reviewed and extended where possible.

Commitment to safeguarding

Our organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff, volunteers and trustees to share this commitment.

Our recruitment process follows the keeping children safe in education guidance.

Offers of employment may be subject to the following checks (where relevant):

We are a popular, progressive and inclusive school located in Ardwick, two miles outside of Manchester City Centre. There is much redevelopment currently taking place in the local area and our school is integral to this regeneration. Many of our children come from our local area however, due to our excellent reputation, many families travel a significant distance to attend Armitage; in fact, 50% of our school population are EAL learners, with children coming from all over the world to be part of our community! We have recently become part of ‘The Aiming High C.E. Federation’, a newly formed group of schools which currently includes ourselves and All Saints Primary in Gorton – it’s only a short drive between the two sites!
